Genesis 22:1-14
Abraham was 90 when God told him he was going to provide him a son through his wife. Sarah. His son was born when he was 100 years old. How precious Isaac just have been to Abraham who had to wait 100 years for him. God then appeared and asked Abraham to give up his son. It was easier for Abraham to give up his wife than his own son. Imagine the struggle in his heart. He was probably feeling sorry, doubt, resentment, regret, etc. when God asked Abraham to give up his only son. However, he decided to obey God because he trusted in God. Abraham had a very long way to travel with 2 young men and his son. It took them 3 days to arrive. During that time he was probably second guessing his decision the whole time. It was a test given by God. In our life, there may be a time where something unexpectedly happens. Perhaps it may be a test from God. As Abraham was preparing to slaughter his son, Isaac asked where the sacrifice was. His dad responded by saying, God will provide for himself. We could have the same response. If asked what will happen to us this year, in 2023, our response could be I don’t know. The Lord will provide. Abraham didn’t know, but he had trust that God will take care of him. God stopped him as he was about to kill his son, and Abraham called that place, Jehovah Jireh, or God will provide. Don’t worry or be too anxious because God will take care of it. He is your Heavenly Father and his name is Jehovah Jireh. We don’t need to anxious or worry because god will provide for us. That is a blessing to be his child.
If you are already overwhelmed as the new year starts, don’t be too worried because God will provide.
In order for us to meet Jehovah Jireh, we need prepare.
1. Prepare wood
2. Prepare fire
In this story, Abraham provided wood and fire. God provided the sacrifice. In verse 14, Abraham called the place, Jehovah Jireh. On the mount of the lord it shall be provided. We can be out inter Jehovah Jireh on the mount of the lord. In order to experience this God we need to climb the mount of the lord. God will be there. Climb the mountain of faith and you will experience Jehovah Jireh. God asked Abraham to climb mount moriah. Mount moriah was the mountain of obedience. Abraham had to climb the mountain of obedience to meet Jehovah Jireh. What mountain do you need to climb this year? Mountain Moriah – obedience, mountain olive- prayer, mountain of peace, joy, stability? As God appeared to Abraham and asked him to climb the mountain of obedience, God may appear to you and ask you to climb a mountain. It isn’t something to be overwhelmed about, you will find that it isn’t too hard once you get started. Mt. Moriah is not a high mountain.
